Ripponden Christmas Lights Switch On 2017
Ripponden was certainly a hive of activity on Saturday night for the Christmas Lights Switch On. The evening started with a lovely Carol Service at St Bartholomew’s Church led by Rev Chris Ball. The Chairman and his Consort handed out chocolates and glow stick bracelets to the children as they left the church to walk up to the village just in time to greet Father Christmas, who arrived spectacularly on a lovely vintage tractor.
For the Lights Switch On itself, Oldham Road was temporarily closed to allow spectators to stand in the road for the count down. The switch on was performed by our Chairman, Cllr Andrew Naylor.
Afterwards Father Christmas was kept very busy meeting with children at Central Hall and was joined by his Scout helpers and members of Ripponden in Bloom who had organised a Christmas Hamper raffle. Some of the Local shops also held open houses, serving amongst other things mulled wine, mince pies and christmas cake.
A big Thank You to all who came along to assist and support the event.

As well as entries for individual and residential gardens, entries are welcomed from businesses, schools, sheltered housing, community groups and any type of communal garden. Don’t forget, although the first impression of each entry – for example the overall impact of the combination of colours and plants – is important, the judges will also award marks for maintenance and condition of the entry.
