Garden Competition 2017

Ripponden Parish Council is launching its Annual Garden Competition 2017. The competition is open to anyone within the Ripponden parish and to all ages – the Parish Council would love entries from youngsters who are gardeners of the future, to those who have gardened all their lives and are passionate about plants.

As well as entries for individual and residential gardens, entries are welcomed from businesses, schools, sheltered housing, community groups and any type of communal garden. Don’t forget, although the first impression of each entry – for example the overall impact of the combination of colours and plants – is important, the judges will also award marks for maintenance and condition of the entry.

You have plenty of time to plan and execute your projects as judging doesn’t begin until the first week of July!

Remembrance Sunday 2016

This years Remembrance Sunday commenced with a service at Rishworth War Memorial before processing to Ripponden War Memorial and Ripponden Church for services.   Luckily the weather was bright and sunny and not too cold for the many people who marched with the parade and gathered at each service to remember the fallen.  Diggle B band once again led the procession and the cornet players sounding of the last post was atmospheric. After the service in St Bartholomew’s Ripponden the procession reassembled at Barkisland for a short march and a final ceremony for the day.

Parish Council wishes to thank the Police and members of the Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge for their attendance and making the event run so safely and smoothly.
