Civic Ball 2017

The Parish Council is once again hosting its Annual Civic Ball, on Saturday 11th March 2017 at The Venue in Barkisland. After a sophisticated drinks reception and a fantastic four course meal, guests will be entertained by ‘Jump, Jive & Wail’ and as always there will be a raffle prize-draw with a variety of high quality prizes on offer!

Alternatively contact the Clerk on 01422 823245.  All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Chairman’s charity which this year is ‘Local Youth Groups within the Parish’.

Proposed Traffic Regulation Order for Ripponden

In June Calderdale Council consulted with residents regarding the proposals for waiting restrictions in Ripponden.  Following the consultation, there are to be some amendments to the original proposals – summarised below:

  • Extend the proposed restrictions on both sides of Excelsior Close to cover the first driveways
  • Remove the proposed restriction on the north eastern side of A672 Oldham Road, Ripponden in the vicinity of house no 147
  • Reduce the length of the proposed restriction at the junction A672 Oldham Road and Godly Lane, Ripponden to a distance of 10m either side of the junction in line with the recommendation as detailed in The Highway Code
  • Provide waiting restrictions on the south west side Back Lane, Ripponden
  • Hirstwood – introduce no waiting at any time restrictions

Updated proposals and amended plans are now being advertised and hard copies have been made available for public inspection at the Parish Council office and Ripponden Library.

The consultation period for the amended plans is 25th November 2016 to 16th December 2016

The Good Citizens Award 2016

The Parish Council is very proud of the many community organisations, activities of the area and community spirit of residents. In order to recognise the outstanding work of people who voluntarily and selflessly work to improve the lives of local people, the Parish Council has developed a ‘Good Citizens Award’

If you feel that you know someone whose service to the community should be recognised please complete an application form and return it to the Clerk as soon as possible. The closing date is 30th November 2016.

Christmas Lights Switch On – Saturday 26th November

The Parish Council is once again hosting the Ripponden Christmas Lights Switch On event, this year on Saturday 26th November. The festivities will commence with a Family Carol Concert at St Bartholomew’s Church 4.00pm. Followed by the Lights Switch On ceremony 5.30pm at the Memorial Garden, Oldham Road. Father Christmas will also be  paying the village a short visit to meet with the children.

Remembrance Sunday – 13th November 2016

The Mill Fold Play Area – refurbishment project

Brilliant news! The Parish Council has been selected for a Tesco Bags of Help Grant for funding towards the refurbishment of Mill Fold Play Area. There are three projects in the running for grants to assist with community based projects. The nominee with the most votes will receive the top grant of £12,000; second place receives £10,000 and third place £8,000. Voting takes place at Sowerby Bridge Tesco between 31st October – 13th November.

The Parish Council’s application is for funds towards the replacement of the Children’s Play Area impact carpet. So please help us by voting for our project.
