Yesterday I had quite a busy day Civic duty wise, firstly I attended the Parish Council’s Civic Service, which was beautifully hosted by Christ Church, Barkisland. The Service was led by Reverend Geoff Spedding and music played by Friendly Brass Band, the special arrangement of ‘Abide with Me’ was most poignant. Afterwards refreshments were served at Barkisland Cricket club with a fantastic array of cakes and buns, home baked by members of Barkisland Active Together. Thank you to all who supported the occasion.
Late afternoon, I had the pleasure of being invited to the unveiling of the ‘Falling Poppies’ at St Bartholomew’s Church. It seemed the whole parish turned out to see the spectacle and visit the church where poppies decorated every window and feature. Personal stories together with family mementoes from WWI were also on display. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to the project, it is amazing! If you haven’t already please take the opportunity to visit the church.
